  CHOICE FOUNDATION INITIATIVES
The Choice Foundation's first major initiative is Lafayette Academy. In 2005, the foundation was awarded the charter for the school, which it continues to govern.

Lafayette Academy surpassed its enrollment goal and currently houses 800 students, kindergarten through eighth grade. The School incorporates a challenging curriculum specifically tailored to the State of Louisiana's requirements.  Instruction is totally aligned with the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum, and it is enhanced with the continuous use of data from a variety of software packages and classroom practices. Undergirding all of this is an extensive student and family support system that assures at-risk students of their best chance at success. Fine arts such as visual arts, , creative writing and music are also part of the curriculum at Lafayette Academy.

Through this engaging curriculum, the students gain historical information and come to understand the expansive potential open to them if they can identify with early clarity their individual strengths and sense of purpose.

Lafayette Academy has proven that charter schools do work. The Choice Foundation has recently hired returning, native-New Orleanian Mickey Landry to head Lafayette Academy as the School moves forward in its second year as a Choice Foundation Charter School.

Because of the success of Lafayette Academy—the only fully-enrolled successful charter school in New Orleans—Choice Foundation was awarded a second charter in July 2010 to takeover another fully-enrolled failing school. The board of Esperanza Charter School, which was formed to serve the needs of the Hispanic population of the city, returned its charter to the state, and Choice Foundation successfully completed the competitive application process to takeover the school. A K-8 charter school in the Receovery School District, Esperanza will open the
2010-2011 school year with approximately 415 students, a 22% increase from previous years. The programming at the school will mirror that of Lafayette Academy: data-enhanced, totally aligned instruction will be supported by a foundation of student and family support.
